Robertson Hall Design Build & Lab Repurposing
University of St. Thomas
Understanding the Challenge
The University of St. Thomas (UST) sought to modernize Robertson Hall to better serve its expanding academic programs and research initiatives. The facility required a complete redesign and repurposing of existing laboratory spaces to accommodate new technology, advanced instructional environments, and collaborative learning areas. The project presented several challenges, including integrating new MEP systems within an older structure, maintaining compliance with university design standards, and executing construction activities in an active campus setting with minimal disruption to students and faculty. Some of the projects include:
- Chemical lab repurposing – Design-build
- Robertson building – Classroom renovations
Our Strategic Intervention
PMG provided comprehensive project and construction management services throughout design and construction, ensuring that all project objectives were met on time and within budget. Our team facilitated coordination among the architect, contractor, and university stakeholders to streamline communication and maintain design intent. PMG oversaw schedule adherence, budget management, and quality assurance while managing risk across multiple trades. Through proactive oversight and weekly progress evaluations, we maintained clear visibility on cost controls and ensured compliance with UST’s design and construction guidelines.
Transformational Results
The revitalized Robertson Hall now offers modernized laboratory and instructional environments that support the university’s mission of innovation and excellence in education. PMG’s leadership and collaborative approach enabled the project to be delivered efficiently, with enhanced functionality, improved energy performance, and upgraded safety systems. The transformation has provided UST with a state-of-the-art facility that better serves its faculty, students, and academic community while extending the useful life and value of the building.
